01 Overview

Vantiva, a connected-device technology company, needed to give facilities teams a way to monitor and fix building hardware without being on site. The goal was a single platform where staff could see device health across a building in real time, resolve common issues remotely, and cut install times that were stretching from days into weeks.

Facilities teams had no central way to see device health. Every fix meant finding the device, walking to it, and troubleshooting in person. For one enterprise client, manual scanning and data entry took 12 hours, full installs ran 7 to 10 days, and every reboot or connectivity drop became a ticket for DevOps. Leadership wanted a quick fix through faster software releases, but the real problem sat upstream in hardware and process. I made the case to pause the release cadence and diagnose the system first: a short-term slowdown in exchange for a fix that would relieve engineering and deliver a bigger win for customers.

Front-line staff could resolve common hardware issues themselves instead of escalating to DevOps, freeing engineering from repetitive, low-complexity requests. Engineers gained a live, accurate view of every device in a facility, and install work that once required [7 to 10 days] on site [now took X]. The platform also opened a new layer of value for customers, turning device data into real-time insight about their spaces.
